"All of us around the table take this issue very seriously and we know we’ve got to get something done as quickly as possible."
The three quotes above were all spoken by politicians responding to a financial crisis. The first two by FDR; the last...President Bush. See the common thread: just do something...even if it is wrong. That is what is happening. Politicians are just "doing something" even when they don't know if what they are
doing is hurtful or beneficial.
If you want to read about the Great Depression I suggest The Forgotten Man...not light reading but very informative (and scary because I keep hearing things said today by politicians that were said during the Depression).
